Red Dawn ends on a rock.
The Names
All through the film, the Wolverines carve the names of their fallen on Partisan Rock.
It is a simple act.
It turns each loss into a record.
The Plaque
In the closing scene, a plaque stands where the rock is fenced off.
The narration tells what happened to the town and to the teenagers who defended it.
Why It Works
The film never asks the viewer to cheer the loss.
It asks the viewer to remember it.
That is the oldest tradition of any resistance story.
